Seattle Tourism
Seattle is the “Emerald City”, and as
it name suggests, it’s green all year long. Not only is the Seattle area known
for its beauty, but also as a leader in commerce and foreign trade. High tech
companies such as Microsoft, Real Networks, F5, Attachmate, WRQ, and hundreds of
others call this region home. Of course there are other Fortune 500 companies,
such as Boeing and it’s global impact on aerospace, Starbucks Coffee, Nordstrom
as a high-end fashion retailer, Costco Wholesale, Washington Mutual Bank,
Weyerhaeuser, Safeco, AT&T Wireless, and bio-tech companies as Amgen which
also call this place home.
Seattle is host to a varied ethnic
mix from European, African, Asian, Mid-Eastern, Latino and Slavic communities
which all live in harmony here. All of these cultures are showcased during each
Memorial Day weekend at the Northwest Folklife Festival, a free event to all
participants.
Seattle’s cultural scene is rich with
the award winning and acclaimed groups as the Seattle Opera Company, Seattle
Reparatory Theater, ACT Theater, NW Ballet Company, and the Seattle Symphony
just to name a few. These groups perform in world class halls, especially
Benaroya Hall as the home of the Seattle Symphony, and the new Opera House at
the Seattle Center.
From culture to activities. Seattle
has more sailboats and pleasure craft per capita than any other city in the
world. You can get to a world class winter skiing resort within an hour’s drive
from downtown Seattle. There are plenty of trails to both hike, bike and camp
at. And of course, Seattle has been named as one of the most livable cities on a
consistent basis.
